Details
This leather guitar strap is made with fine glitter bonded to leather (from a Spanish tannery) that is inset within smooth top grain gray cowhide, and the inset of pink glitter is inlaid with teal glitter "rain drop" effect with the changing shape and sizes. The entire strap is backed with thick and soft brown cowhide, with teal thread edge stitching.
The thick layer of glitter really catches the light and eye, and sparkles various shades of pink, and the teal is opalescent with sky blue and teal pending the light source.
This inset is 1 3/4" wide and 7 1/2" high, and is perimeter stitched around cut out edge to the main cowhide strap, and then sandwiched between the lining leather that is fully glued and edge stitched to the grey main strap. The inset is positioned to be between the player's and instrument shoulders...
The drop effect is the glitter leather is bonded (leather contact cement) to another thin leather after the shapes punched out of the pink, and then the teal dots are set in and bonded to the thin leather. Since the pink and teal are from the same tannery and process, they appear at the same level. And they are also bonded on the sides to minimize any gaps opening up between the pink and teal as the strap is moved.
The overall length of this 2 1/2" wide strap as shown is adjustable from about 48" to 58". The main strap is about 42" long, and there are 11 slots are spaced 1" apart for adjusting by weaving the 1" wide adjustment strap. This narrower adjustment strap has its hole about 18" from slot to its rear peg hole when installed.
I have eased the edges of both leathers with edge beveler, softening the edges and exposing the white leather the glitter is bonded to, and also means that the glitter layer doesn't have a sharp edge and won't rub against your clothing. I have used a natural color thread that matches glittered leather base on the top, and a color in the bobbin to blend in with the wine leather. And most of the time, the thread can't even be seen.
The two layers together are about 0.175" thick (nearly 3/16"), and the glittered leather on its own is about 0.070". This strap is very strong and firm enough for solid body instruments. The two layers together are still reasonably supple, but the thickness will prevent the strap from rolling up tightly, and to ensure it's in best condition possible for you, I am using Regional Rate A box shipping (domestic--may vary for international), which may seem high priced, but ensures the strap is not bent or unduly harmed by trying to force it into a smaller box, and arrives in as good of shape as possible for you.
I have not yet punched the hole for the front strap button so please specify if you want to use the strap wtih strap buttons or strap locks, and I will size the hole appropriately. But if you don't specify you'll be using strap locks, or special strap buttons, I'll punch the holes for the pegs at 5/16" in the front, and the adjustment strap is already at 3/8" with a small slit ends with a small hole at the top of the slit to prevent tears & the "keyhole" effect makes the strap easier to install & remove, and can accommodate most pegs. The firm leather and stitching around the front peg hole keeps strap to remain secured once it's fitted fully in place.
The main strap tapers only from 2 1/2" from 5" to the front end to about a 1 1/2" radius for the front peg end to maximize the pattern, and just slightly on the slot end. I've matched the front taper for the back of the glitter layer where it ends before the slots.
The 1" wide adjustment strap is made with the same leathers as the main strap so it can weave through the adjustment slots easily, but it is still firm, and will not stretch. The edges are trimmed with a small radius bevel tool to soften the look. The hide is through-dyed, so it is consistent color on the edges as on its soft suede split underside.
I will stamp my store brand logo on the underside of the strap.
This design means the strap is only leather, and there is no metal or plastic hardware that could annoy you while you're playing, or your knock into you instrument while it's being moved or stored.
I can also provide leather "laces" if you prefer to tie the strap to the neck of the guitar, rather than using a front peg. And if you have a specific peg size you need to fit, please let me know. There is no extra charge for enlarging the peg holes or for the ties when you order the strap, but please note in the order if you want any of those changes.
