This listing is for the CABERNET colored embroidered silk taffeta panel that I acquired about 10-15 years ago with intent to use for Steampunk costuming. It was new then & is as I purchased it. This is heavier silk taffeta than typically sold for garments, and it is fabulous to handle and hear the silk rustle, and to work with and turn into cosplay or historically inspired garments. or home interior projects! I still love this silk, but as I have no plans for it any more, best let it find someone else who can enjoy it!
The cream that I originally listed with this that is in some images has sold.
The panel is 2 1/2 yards long and 52" wide (as hemmed) for less than half the price of new yardage, and a slight discount if you buy them together (shipping is the same for the bundle or a single panel, so further savings there).
One is CABERNET. which is wine "shot" with black. It has been stored away from sunlight in my smoke-free home, and rarely did my cat get close to them, either. (Note--based on recent web search, the Cream is still available at other sellers, but the Cabernet does not appear to be available...).
Across the 54" width there are 4 columns of floral pattern embroidery that on the Cabernet has richer pink to wine red shades. The stems appear to be the same sage green, but there is greater contrast against the Cabernet making the embroidery a stronger element as a result of the color contrast, as I have tried to show with different angles and folds--all in natural light.
I obtained these fabrics from a interior design fabric provider, and they were made up as curtain panels, with double folded hems on all sides with transparent monofilament thread. The finished width the panel is 49", and the finished length of the Cabernet is 89" or nearly 2 1/2 yards.
The side hems are about 1 1/4", so finished width is about 2.5" less than the fabric width without being hemmed. Both sides do appear raw, so the factory selvedges were removed for hemming on straight grain, and so if the hem removed and flattened back out, the full width is 51 1/2", less than the factory 54".
The top hem is 3 1/4" for the Cabernet, and are open on the sides for a rod to slide thru so it can be hung if desired (and also allowed check of the sides), and the bottom hem is about 4 1/2" and 4 1/4" and is closed with the side hem stitching, so over 7" and 6" added respectively to the length if the hems are opened.
I do not know the original manufacturer as there were no name tags for it, but have found this same embroidery pattern and silk taffeta on other sites for $80-90/yard, and the pattern is called the "Lady Bird", and as described as "named for First Lady, Ladybird Johnson, a tireless advocate for the environment. Realizing that more than 4,000 native plant species are endangered, she founded the National Wildflower Research Center. We celebrate that spirit and the work that began in the heart of a first lady who believed "beauty in nature nourishes us and brings joy to the human spirit, it also is one of the deep needs of people everywhere.""
