Details
This leather guitar strap is a base layer of smooth, soft & supple grey cowhide and has seven (7) die cut & embossed maple leaves of various shades and types of leathers applied replicating the start of spring from the shoulder to the fallen leaf at the bottom, or front peg end.
Each leaf has been individually die cut and embossed, but some leathers show the embossed veins better than others. The leaves are, from lightest to dark: 1. green & gold over cream lizard pattern cowhide, 2. smooth grass green cowhide; 3. iridescent green foiled sheepskin; 4. same as 2; 5. orange with bronze sheepskin; 6. red bison; 7. mottled brown cowhide.
Each leaf is then glued in place and carefully edge stitched with a coordinating thread for the leaf and grey bobbin thread, so the threads blend into the leather. The start/stops have been heat sealed to lock the threads, and alas the underside of the grey cowhide does show some of this, but the underside does not show while wearing the strap. (Note: the guitar is shown as model only, and NOT for sale).
The underside of the strap is a soft seuded split, but is still very soft. And even with the appliqued layers of leather, the strap remains very supple, and can be rolled up tightly if desired.
The main strap is hand cut to 2 1/2" wide and tapers slightly at either end, and is about 40" long, which is a bit shorter than my normal length. I have softened the cut edges with a small bevel tool, so there is a gentle transition from the top surface to the edge.
Eleven adjustment slots are cut about every 1", and the 1" wide adjustment strap loops through the chosen slot and is woven through the other slots to provide the desired length and fixes to the back pin on the guitar.
I cut the adjustment strap to about 22", with about 18" to the peg hole, so the overall length can be adjusted from about 46" to 56" between the peg holes. But since I cut these myself, I can easily modify the length or spacing to get the fit that works for you. Or you can add more peg holes in this back strap for finer adjustment as you wear it in.
The hole for the front peg is punched at 5/16", and rear tab hole is 3/8". Each end has a small slit that ends with a small hole for a "keyhole" effect to prevent tears and to make the strap easy to install & remove. The hole and can accommodate most pegs, but remains securely in place.
If you have a specific peg size you need to fit, please let me know.
This is also laser etched a few inches above the front peg hole and on the adjustment strap with my new brand logo, Acoustic Needle.
Note: there is a small natural artifact from a bug bite or scar on the cow that shows in the hide, between the laser etched logo and the front peg hole. Alas I did not notice this until the strap was completed, but given it's position, it will not be noticed by others when the strap is mounted onto the peg hole.
The design means the strap is only leather, and there is no metal or plastic hardware that could annoy you while you're playing, or your knock into you instrument while it's being moved or stored.
I can also provide coordinating leather "laces" if you prefer to tie the strap to the neck of the guitar, rather than using a front peg. There is no extra charge for these when you order the strap, but please note in the order you want it included.
If you have any questions, please convo me! I can replicate this design with different colors, and may soon have other leaf shapes, too.
