This strap is made from natural cork bonded to genuine leather, making a very light weight but strong strap!
Currently I only have one 2" wide version that can be a maximum of up to about 54" long peg hole to peg hole versus the standard length of up to 58". Otherwise the details are the same as described below and shown in the pictures except the width and length, and the price is adjusted for the narrower and shorter version I have in stock right now.
The natural cork has gold backing to fill in natural voids & gaps so the buff colored cowhide only shows in cross section and on the backside. And it's very supple, resilient, and strong--and very light weight compared to cowhides of the same thickness.
Please note, this is not to be confused with "cork leather" that is used to describe cork laminated to fabric and is an option to genuine leather, but is a layer of cork that is actually bonded to real leather instead of fabric backing--so you could say it is cork leather+leather. And it is very difficult to find, especially in size suitable for a single strap length--and given 1"x2" earrings of this same cork+leather are being sold for over $20/pair, the price for a full strap is a bargain...
The overall thickness is about 0.078", or 5oz. The commercial bonding process is extremely durable, and only after great effort was I able to split the cork off the leather on a scrap piece to confirm the leather itself is 0.055", or 3.5oz, and the cork is about 0.023". or 1.5oz. The cork is supported on a very fine mesh and then laminated to the leather so it is very flexible and resilient, which is why cork fabric that is now widely used for bags and wallets.
This cork & leather laminate is very light weight, but very strong and supple. It's quite smooth and the leather is very soft and would be very comfortable for long wear. I have shown it rolled up tight with a business card beside it, as well as some other images mounted on my acoustic guitar (used as model/demonstration only).
Typically the main strap is hand cut to 2 1/2" wide and tapers slightly at either end, and is about 42" long, so with the adjustment strap, and the 11 slots every 1", the fit can be from about 48 to 58". I can always make this shorter!
Eleven adjustment slots are cut about every 1", and the 1" wide adjustment strap loops through the chosen slot and is woven through the other slots to provide the desired length and fixes to the back pin on the guitar.
I cut the adjustment strap to about 22", with about 18" to the peg hole, so the overall length can be adjusted from about 48" to 58" between the peg holes. But since I cut these myself, I can easily modify the length or spacing to get the fit that works for you. Or you can add more peg holes in this back strap for finer adjustment as you wear it in.
The holes for the front peg is punched at 5/16", and rear tab is 3/8". Each end has a small slit that ends with a small hole for a "keyhole" effect to prevent tears and to make the strap easy to install & remove. The hole and can accommodate most pegs, but remains securely in place. If you have a specific peg size you need to fit, please let me know.
I have laser etched my Acoustic Needle logo on the cork side of the adjustment strap, but added it on the back side at the front peg end, so nothing breaks up the appearance of the cork on the front.
The design means the strap is only cork+leather, and there is no metal or plastic hardware that could annoy you while you're playing, or your knock into you instrument while it's being moved or stored.
I can also provide coordinating leather "laces" if you prefer to tie the strap to the neck of the guitar, rather than using a front peg. There is no extra charge for these when you order the strap, but please note in the order you want it included.
If you have any questions, please convo me! I am trying to get some other cork colors in--but this is very difficult to acquire in large enough sizes suitable for full length strap.
