The options here are for the "scales" and "slither" sections from a leather with soft glittery foil/ink applied to black thin suede onto thicker cowhide base to create a unique and strong strap for your instrument.
The "Scales" is akin to the belly scales on a python, and is shown on buffed Green base leather strap, and the "Slither" is the smaller scales of the back, shown on a smooth black leather base strap base. These strips are cut from the same hide that is large enough I can cut following the specific pattern, rather than perpendicular, and picking up both sections in alternating fashion.
This colorful layer have a slight texture and is primarily green with gold tones, but does show slight red & purple. It is very reflective and colors vary by the viewing angle and light source--and does have slight color shifting or iridescent effect, too. I've tried to capture this liveliness in some of the photos with different angles of the camera or leather to the light.
This amazing thinner cowhide is glued and edge stitched on a smooth black cowhide that is strong and supple, and 5-6oz thick (3/32"). I have also stitched around the front peg hole to ensure the layers don't separate with repeated install/removal from the peg.
This leather will settle in with use, like all good leather does, but it will not stretch out! The special finish leather is still supple, but as adds a bit of thickness and firmness to the strap, it doesn't roll up quite as tightly as compared to the black leather on its own.
I make these my standard length, unless otherwise requested, and the overall length can be adjusted from about 48" to 60" between the peg holes, and eleven slots about 1" apart to weave the adjustment strap through to adjust the length to suit. The holes for the front peg is punched at 5/16", and rear tab is 3/8". Each end has a small slit that ends with a small hole for a "keyhole" effect to prevent tears and to make the strap easy to install & remove. The hole and can accommodate most pegs, but remains securely in place.
The main strap is hand cut to 2 1/2" wide and tapers slightly at either end, and is about 42" long. I have softened the cut edges of the main strap exposed on the slot end and the adjustment strap with a small bevel tool, so there is a gentle transition from the top surface to the edge.
The 1" wide adjustment strap is cut to about 22", or effectively 18" from slot to the button hole.
Since I cut these myself, I can usually easily modify the length or either strap, or spacing of the peg holes to get the fit that works for you. If you have a specific peg size you need to fit, but please let me know if you need a longer strap before you order--I need to verify I have enough on-hand to do so, and the price will be a little higher when more leather is involved!
This strap has my new brand, Acoustic Needle, logo etched on the adjustment strap, but I can leave this off if you prefer, just request in notes to seller in the order.
The design means the strap is only leather, and there is no metal or plastic hardware that could annoy you while you're playing, or your knock into you instrument while it's being moved or stored.
I can also provide coordination leather "laces" if you prefer to tie the strap to the neck of the guitar, rather than using a front peg. There is no extra charge for these when you order the strap, but please note in the order you want it included.
Please note, since the option on black is very common in many of my other listings, I opted to emphasize the scales on green. I do generally make these to order, so if you'd like to see the scales on black, or slither on green, I can send you a picture of representing this if you wish to see it before ordering.
