This Star Spangled leather guitar strap is made with fine silver glitter bonded to white leather (from a Spanish tannery) with a blue fabric layer that makes the stars, and this leather is then applied to matte finish red cowhide, which shows on the slot end and the adjustment strap. In cross section (the edges) you can see the red main strap, the white leather, and a very thin blue layer of the fabric, and then the silver glitter.
The thick layer of glitter really catches the light and eye, and sparkles from pewter to bright silver, and the blue stars also have a little gleam, providing a nice color and texture difference with the matte red leather. I took the photos with a couple different light options, so some are a little darker, but this is to show how the light will affect the glitter. I also used a kraft paper back ground, to try to stay completely neutral compared to the shine and saturation of the strap.
This special finish leather is glued & edge stitched to the main cowhide strap, leaving the adjustment slot area to show off the main strap leather. I opted for a simple straight cut, to not distract from the show of the silver & blue stars.
I have applied shipping tape over the glitter during my storage and strap preparation, which has removed nearly all the loose glitter. It is very well bonded, but is glitter is as glitter does, and you may leave a little shiny remnant of yourself behind...
The overall length of this 2 1/2" wide strap as shown is adjustable from about 48" to 58". The main strap is about 42" long, and there are 11 slots are spaced 1" apart for adjusting by weaving the 1" wide adjustment strap. This narrower adjustment strap has its hole about 18" from slot to its rear peg hole when installed.
The two layers together are about 3/16" thick, and the glittered leather on its own is about 0.070". This strap is very strong and firm enough for solid body instruments. But the layers together it cannot roll up very tightly (at least initially), but can be stored in the small bag provided.
The strap shown is punched with the holes for the pegs at 5/16" in the front, and 3/8" in the back, and a small slit ends with a small hole at the top of the slit to prevent tears & the "keyhole" effect makes the strap easier to install & remove, and can accommodate most pegs. The firm leather and stitching around the front peg hole keeps strap to remain secured once it's fitted fully in place.
If you use strap locks, please let me know and I can punch the hole sizes to suit your brand.
The main strap is hand cut to 2 1/2" wide, and tapers only from 5" to the front end to about a 1 1/2" radius for the front peg end to maximize the pattern, and just slightly on the slot end.
The 1" wide adjustment strap is made with the same leather as the main strap so it can weave through the adjustment slots easily, but it is still firm, and will not stretch. The edges are trimmed with a small radius bevel tool to soften the look. The hide is through-dyed, so it is consistent color on the edges as on its soft suede split underside.
I have etched my Acoustic Needle brand logo on the adjustment strap.
This design means the strap is only leather, and there is no metal or plastic hardware that could annoy you while you're playing, or your knock into you instrument while it's being moved or stored.
I can also provide leather "laces" if you prefer to tie the strap to the neck of the guitar, rather than using a front peg. And if you have a specific peg size you need to fit, please let me know. There is no extra charge for enlarging the peg holes or for the ties when you order the strap, but please note in the order if you want any of those changes.
