This is another OOAK all leather guitar strap is made with a unique horn back 'gator embossed cowhide that is dyed teal-grey with dark grey to black highlights to add to the texture and visual depth of the leather to make it resemble real Hornback alligator (apart from the fact that the main color does not exist naturally).
I have tried to capture the depth of the embossing and pattern, as there is actual depth variation, as well as color & sheen variation in this leather. The black is glossier than the teal base, helping the highlights, or tips of the scales, to appear even more pronounced. This piece does capture the length of the embossing from head to tail, and captures 2 "heads"--or at least what looks like sets of eyes!
I left the natural edge of the hide intact for the slot end, so it has a unique, and more rugged, shape.
This is applied over a thick and supple carbon grey cowhide that is oil tanned and has a matte finish and 5 oz (2mm) thick. It is glued & edge stitched in dark grey thread, leaving the adjustment slot area to show off the top grain finish of the main strap cowhide.
The main strap is hand cut to 2 1/2" wide and tapers close to the end to about a 1 1/2" radius for the front peg end, and a more gentle taper on the other end with the slots. The 1" wide adjustment strap is made with the same charcoal leather so it can weave through the adjustment slots easily, but it is still firm, and will not stretch. The edges are trimmed with a small radius bevel tool to soften the look. The hide is through-dyed, so color is consistent on its cut edges and underside.
The overall length of this strap as shown is adjustable from about 48" to 58". The main strap is about 42" long, and the 11 slots are spaced from about 29" to 40" from the front peg hole. The adjustment strap is 18" from slot to its rear peg hole when installed. (I refer to the front peg hole being on the main strap, and the rear is the adjustment slot).
The 1" wide adjustment strap loops through the chosen slot and is woven through the other slots to provide the desired length and fixes to the back pin on the guitar.
The holes for the pegs are punched at 5/16" in the front, and 3/8" in the back, and a small slit ends with a small hole at the top of the slit to prevent tears & the "keyhole" effect makes the strap easier to install & remove, and can accommodate most pegs. The firm leather and stitching around the front peg hole keeps strap to remain secured once it's fitted fully in place.
This design means the strap is only leather, and there is no metal or plastic hardware that could annoy you while you're playing, or your knock into you instrument while it's being moved or stored.
I can also provide leather "laces" if you prefer to tie the strap to the neck of the guitar, rather than using a front peg. And if you have a specific peg size you need to fit, please let me know. There is no extra charge for enlarging the peg holes or for the ties when you order the strap, but please note in the order if you want any of those changes.
Even though I may not have enough of this light brown leather, I do have more of the teal gator, so can custom make a longer or shorter version as suits your fit and playing style.
