This unique guitar strap is made with an Asian style floral print on honey background cowhide, and is inset into a vintage/distressed look bison main strap.
The inset floral cowhide is glued against the flesh side of the bison, and two rows of stitching with coordinating thread to fully secure the layers and frame the pattern in an 18" long x 1 1/4"-1 3/4" wide frame that tapers to maintain 3/8" width, starting 6" above the front end of the strap, and ends 5 1/2" from the first slot. I have left the printed cowhide unbacked, and there is more flex in this area of the insert, but in use this will stay flat.
This bison leather is very supple, with mellow temper, but is still strong (stronger than cowhide), and is 5-6oz thick (3/32"). The printed cowhide is thinner than the bison, but firmer and strong on its own, and the 3/8" wide edges of the frame are stronger than the bison on its own. This will have no trouble supporting acoustic and lighter weight solid body instruments.
The bison hide has a vintage quality due to the variation in the shading and texture, and due to its natural source may show distress marks from life experiences, as well as will age wonderfully due to oils within the hide, and will likely darken and get smoother with use.
This strap has the logo for my guitar strap specific brand, Acoustic Needle, laser etched above the front peg hole and on the adjustment strap.
The main strap is hand cut to 2 1/2" wide and tapers slightly at either end, and is about 42" long. I have softened the cut edges with a small bevel tool, so there is a gentle transition from the top surface to the edge.
Eleven adjustment slots are cut about every 1", and the 1" wide adjustment strap loops through the chosen slot and is woven through the other slots to provide the desired length and fixes to the back pin on the guitar.
I cut the adjustment strap to about 22", so the overall length can be adjusted from about 48" to 60" between the peg holes. But since I cut these myself, I can easily modify the length or spacing to get the fit that works for you. This leather will settle in with use, like all good leather does, but it will not stretch out!
The hole for the front peg is punched at 5/16", and the one on the adjustment strap is 3/8". Each end has a small slit that ends with a small hole for a "keyhole" effect to prevent tears and to make the strap easy to install & remove. The hole and can accommodate most pegs, but remains securely in place. If you have a specific peg size you need to fit, please let me know.
The design means the strap is only leather, and there is no metal or plastic hardware that could annoy you while you're playing, or your knock into you instrument while it's being moved or stored.
I can also provide black leather "laces" if you prefer to tie the strap to the neck of the guitar, rather than using a front peg. There is no extra charge for these when you order the strap, but please note in the order you want it included.
